Spammers of the world

This is a list of scummy people. It is meant as both a list of shame cum revenge and warning to anyone who happens upon these spammers.

Don't get me wrong, I'm into making money. I'm just not into making money by harassing people without their consent, repeatedly, using pseudo-anonymous contact details amongst bland, template-based emails.

Dizinga

Who? That's what I thought. Here's their spam email with links removed.

Hi <<INSERT STOLEN ID HERE>>

I love your designs and they would sell really well on our site Dizinga, an artist marketplace that only works with hand-selected artists.

We are similar to other sites like Spreadshirt, RedBubble and Cafe Press in as much as you upload your artwork designs and we take care of the manufacturing and delivery to customers. We are very different in that each artist earns substantially more, this is because we operate storefronts on behalf of huge publishers with millions of fans such as CarThrottle and GTspirit as well as listing your designs on Amazon marketplaces globally and in Google advertising campaigns.

To get started selling your designs on Dizinga all you have to do is register a free account here: <<LINKS REMOVED>>

Looking forward to promoting your artwork and generating you sales,

All the best,
Liam Patterson

As a startup that went live some time in July 2015 they obviously are basing their new business model (sic) on spamming. Harvesting my details from Spreadshirt most likely, Dizinga has thankfully presented themselves are people definitely not to do business with.

Black Shell Media

Who? That's what I thought. I have been emailed three times so far. Here they are for your delight and education.

First contact.

Hey there!

Let me introduce myself briefly. I’m Daniel, CEO of Black Shell Media LLC. We’re a small startup based in New Jersey that specialises in viral audience growth for indie studios. We’ve developed and published games like <<PLUG REMOVED>>, noticed by some of the biggest gaming sites out there (Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Destructoid, PCGamer, and more).

One of our games, <<PLUG REMOVED>>, got through Steam Greenlight within less than 10 days, and netted more than 6,700 downloads in its first few weeks on Steam alone. Many of our clients and revenue share partners have gotten Greenlit in less than two weeks! Over the years, we have meticulously crafted efficient and effective techniques for getting indie games the recognition they deserve, and I'd love to get a chance to help make MrDoodle reach top ten lists all across the internet.

What I do at Black Shell Media is work with developers like you who have a fantastic game but could benefit from an extra surge of audience growth to get it out to the public effectively. I’ve worked on all kinds of games across a variety of genres. MrDoodle was brought to my attention recently, and I think that if we were to work together, it could become the next big thing.

Some developers say that getting a game noticed is all about getting lucky. I say let’s make our own luck through hard work and passion. Black Shell Media has the resources and experience needed to make your game’s fan base grow exponentially. We’ve provided massive audience growth and full-service marketing for titles similar to your game, and we know the indie gaming industry inside and out with over 8 years of marketing experience. Here’s a link to a slightly more detailed (but still a short read!) overview of our services.

I would love to partner with you. I want to offer you the opportunity to sit down for a free consultation and hear what we can offer you. I want you to give me a chance to get MrDoodle the success it deserves. We have business development contacts on the world's largest digital distribution platforms including Steam, GOG, and Humble Bundle, and we can get your game in front of hundreds of thousands of gamers in a heartbeat.

If you decide to take the chance and watch players fall in love with MrDoodle, please shoot us an email back and we can get a conversation going. I hope you take us up on the free consultation, because we're very excited to work with you.

Thank you so much for your time. All the best!
Cheers.

Extra helpings of Hey there!

Hey there,

I haven't heard back from you yet so I just thought I'd send you a quick little email to check in.

Was there something I didn't provide enough information about? Did I mention something that led you to believe we wouldn't be a good fit? If you have a few minutes, please do share any feedback you may have regarding our outreach strategy so I can better help you and other indie developers! I'd also be happy to set up a call with a member of my team to help provide you with some more information if you are interested.

Thank you so much for your time, I really appreciate it.
Cheers.

Priceless isn't it. Note: Hey there! is not a suitable introduction from one business to another if you want me to take you even remotely seriously. And in case you haven't worked it out, if you're offering this sort of scum-baggery marketing/publicity in a slime-shittery way, especially to an indie developer, you probably have no idea how really wrong you are, as a business and as a person.

2016 update

Almost a whole year went buy and the same shickt is happening again.

Hey there,

Just came across your neat indie game on Greenlight!

I'm Daniel from Black Shell Media, and we've helped hundreds of indie games such as Dungeon Souls take off with marketing, PR, distribution, and press coverage by Destructoid, GiantBomb and Rock Paper Shotgun.

Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Intel, Logitech, and Alienware are working with us as well!

I would love to get in touch with you and hear about your game's marketing needs—I feel like there is a possibility for some strong synergy here since we're all about helping indie game developers succeed, and I'd love to see what unfolds.

Looking forward to hearing back from you soon! :)

The funny parts are:

  • The fact that my game has been on greenlight for over 13 months (perhaps time to throw in the towel?, or worse, use their services).
  • The brag of major companies with absolutely no testimonials from indie devs (not exactly a relevant marketing pitch is it?
  • The completely confusing tone of seriousness with smileys and informal language.
  • All those exclamation marks, just saver them for a moment and reflect on the back-alley, greasy salesmen image they help to convey.

I conclude that not only are BSM scraping Greenlight indiscriminately for contact address but they are not even keeping an active/updated database. Bastards. Lazy, dirty, bastards.

The next spammer.

Will it be you?
